Holy Cow !
About 70 percent of U.S. children have low levels of vitamin D, which puts them at higher risk for bone and heart disease according to a recent study in the online version of the journal, Pediatrics.
The cause? Poor diet ...and lack of sunshine. In a study involving 6000 kids, 7.6 million kids were vitamin D deficient and another 61 percent, or 50.8 million, were vitamin D insufficient.
Contributing factors: Slathering on of sunblock, sun avoidance, poor diets, & lack of nutrients in food.
Apparently you need about 800 IU of vitamin D daily to have a sufficient amount onboard to protect bones, & keep lipid levels in the normal range.
